Call for AbstractsThe American Academy of Oral Medicine would like to invite abstracts for oral and poster presentations at the annual meeting in April 2018. The abstracts must not be published elsewhere at the time of the submission. Relevant abstracts previously presented within the last 12 months at other conferences, and not yet published, are eligible for submission. The Abstracts Committee for this meeting will select abstracts for poster and oral presentations. Those accepted for oral presentation will be published in the Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology journal. All abstracts must be submitted electronically through the secure link at https://www.conftool.pro/aaom2018/ by 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time on December 24th, 2017. Abstracts will not be accepted for consideration after the submission deadline. Under no circumstances will presenters be permitted to modify their abstract text after the submission deadline. All abstracts are selected via peer review. Decisions will be sent to corresponding authors via e-mail by February 15, 2018. If accepted, the presenting author is required to register for the meeting and be present during the scheduled poster/oral sessions. Abstracts are accepted contingent that the presenting author register and present the abstract at the annual meeting. An abstract without a registered presenter by the registration deadline of will be withdrawn and will be ineligible for publication in Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology Journal. INSTRUCTIONSThere are three links on the submission page - “Original Investigation (OI),” “Case Report (CR),” and “Lester Burket Memorial Award (LBMA).” All abstracts must be submitted under one of the three links. Please pay extra attention to which category you are submitting. Submission to a wrong category may result in withdrawal of the abstract. Abstracts for OI and CR are limited to a maximum of 350 words. Abstracts for LBMA are limited to a maximum of 750 words. Tables and figures are not allowed. All submitted abstracts must be categorized as either “Original Investigation” or “Case Report.” There is a separate link for each category in the abstract submission software. Submission to a wrong category may result in withdrawal of the abstract. There is a specific abstract format in each category. Any submission not following the format may be withdrawn from consideration. Original Investigation Abstract Format: a) Objectives (aims/purpose, hypotheses, and goals of the investigation) Case Report Abstract Format: a) Background (A few sentences providing information relevant to case) Lester Burket Memorial Award a) Objectives: introduction that clearly indicates the purpose of the study, hypotheses, and goals of the investigation AWARDSLester Burket Memorial Award The Lester Burket Memorial Award (LBMA) was created to honor the memory of Dr. Lester Burket to promote basic and clinical research in oral medicine. Only research conducted by residents/fellows of accredited US and Canadian oral medicine training programs are eligible. Graduates of these oral medicine programs are eligible to submit their abstracts as long as the research was initiated during their residency. There is NO maximum of entrant per program. The abstracts should represent significant thesis-level research. Maximum two awards per year are given. Award recipients will be notified by mid-February 2018. Awardees will give a 20-minute oral presentation at the 2018 AAOM meeting. Winners in both LBMA categories will receive $1,500, a one-year membership in the AAOM, and the conference registration fee will be waived for recipients.
