2025 ABOM Exam Information

The American Board of Oral Medicine (ABOM) administers a certification process for dentists who are accomplished in the field. Individuals who pass all requirements of this Board become Diplomates of the American Board of Oral Medicine.

2025 ABOM Qualifying Exam (formerly known as Part A)

Foundational Knowledge, Online Assessment

Dates

  • Friday, January 10, 2025 – Application open: November 1, 2024 - December 15, 2024 
  • Friday, June 13, 2025 – Application open: April 1, 2025 - May 15, 2025

Eligibility Requirements

  • Graduation from a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)-accredited advanced education program in Oral Medicine, or enrollment in the second year of such a program.
  • Membership in a recognized Oral Medicine organization.
  • Submission of a completed application by the published deadline.
  • Payment of application and registration fees by the published deadline.

2025 ABOM Oral Clinical Cases Exam (formerly known as Part B)

Clinical Knowledge Assessment

Date: The ABOM Oral Clinical Cases Exam will be held in person at the AAOM Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

  • Wednesday, May 14, 2025.- Application open February 1, 2025 – March 15, 2025.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Graduation from a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)-accredited advanced education program in Oral Medicine, or enrollment in the second year of such a program.
  • Successful completion of the Qualifying Examination.
  • Evidence of at least 18 months of clinical practice in the oral medicine specialty following receipt of a certificate or degree. This evidence may include a letter from a qualified colleague, a direct supervisor, or the director of the applicant's training program.
  • Membership in a recognized Oral Medicine organization.
  • Submission of a completed application by the published deadline.
  • Payment of application and registration fees by the published deadline.
