Job Description:   
The Office of the Clinical Director, Division of Intramural Research (DIR), National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), National Institutes of Health, invites applications from hospital-based Dentists for a full-time 4-year renewable Staff Clinician Position. The NIDCR Office of the Clinical Director (OCD) encourages a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that promotes the translation of basic research discoveries into clinical practices. The OCD oversees, in coordination with the Office of the Scientific Director, all clinical activities related to NIDCR’s mission by providing management and administrative support for clinical research protocols; offering a dental consult service for the NIH Clinical Center patient population; supporting a Dental Clinical Research Fellowship; and, conducting ground-breaking human clinical trials with an emphasis on rare diseases and diseases of high public health impact.

In this position, the Staff Clinician will provide dental evaluation and care to patients at the world-renown National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, many of whom are medically compromised, participating in clinical trials, or have rare or undiagnosed conditions and includes adults and children. The Staff Clinician will be part of a clinical team that coordinates and facilitates the delivery of routine dental treatment and other consultative services, interacts closely with primary caregivers and other members of the medical and dental team (including oral surgeons, periodontists, oral medicine/pathologist, and dental clinical research fellows), triages patient treatment needs, shares call service, and is highly proficient in providing dental treatment in the outpatient, inpatient, and operating room settings. In this role, the Staff Clinician will also work with teams of clinical and basic scientists within the DIR to support a strong Clinical and Translational Research Program through oral and dental characterization of diseases and routine treatment. Areas of clinical research of NIDCR investigators include skeletal and metabolic bone disorders, head and neck pathology, immunologic role in periodontal disease, salivary gland disorders, oral manifestations of rare systemic disorders, and craniofacial anomalies and dysmorphism. Clinical research collaboration is strongly encouraged and the Staff Clinician is encouraged to participate in study design, patient examination, subject recruitment as research collaborations are developed. Thus, recent experience with academic clinical care, clinical research or clinical trials, or intimate knowledge of the NIH and areas of clinical research noted above is preferred.

The Staff Clinician will participate in and eventually lead the NIDCR Clinical Research Fellows curriculum which includes weekly service meetings, monthly educational sessions (ie journal clubs), and quarterly Clinicopathological Conferences and Grand Rounds.

The Staff Clinician will participate in and eventually lead the safety and quality improvement activities for the NIDCR Outpatient Clinic.

Qualifications and Experience:  
Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body, or other dental school provided the education and knowledge is equivalent to that of an ADA-approved school. The applicants must have evidence of clinical competence in providing routine adult and pediatric dental care. The applicants must have completed a general practice residency, residency training in hospital dentistry, or hospital-based residency training in oral medicine that includes full-scope general dentistry in an institution accredited for such training and have an active, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico (restricted, teaching or limited licenses do not qualify). It is preferred that applicants have an academic or educational background or a background in clinical research. 

Salary will be commensurate with training credentials and clinical experience.  A full Civil Service package of benefits (including retirement, health, life, and long-term care insurance, as well as a Thrift Savings Plan, etc.) is available.

The Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine Division of Oral Medicine, Pathology and Radiology University of Missouri School of Dentistry invites qualified applicants and nominations for a Clinical-Track position at the Clinical Assistant/Clinical Associate Professor level in Oral Medicine/Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Responsibilities will include didactic and clinical instruction of dental students, dental hygiene students and graduate students/residents, scholarly activity and service. The department has an active mentorship program and will provide opportunities for clinical practice and the development of independent and/or collaborative research programs. Salary and level of academic appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Special Instructions:  
Candidates are required to have a DDS/DMD or equivalent and either be Board eligible or certified in Oral Medicine and have a commitment to teaching, clinical dentistry, research/scholarly activity and service. For non US DDS candidates with US Training and Board eligibility in Oral Medicine, an internationally-trained faculty DDS program is available after an initial period of service. Specific responsibilities include pre-and post-doctoral dental and dental hygiene classroom and clinical teaching in content areas related to oral medicine. Specific educational application of biomedical science to patient care is expected. Qualified candidates may be eligible to participate in faculty practice one day per week.
