Overview

Mentorship is a vital tool for professional development and has been associated with greater productivity, career advancement, and professional satisfaction. AAOM recognizes that mentorship is critical in helping to nurture and grow future leaders, and that a mentorship program is a key opportunity to engage new and existing members. The AAOM Mentorship Program seeks to establish mentoring relationships between early-career AAOM members (Regular and Affiliate only) and professionally-established AAOM members.

What Are the Goals?

The AAOM Mentorship Program aims to promote AAOM career and leadership development. Mentors will have opportunities to further develop leadership skills and learn about emerging trends from the next generation of their peers. Mentees will gain a trusted advisor and learn methods to enhance career advancement.

How Does it Work?

  • AAOM Membership is required for Mentees and Mentors.
  • Mentees will ideally be early career members of AAOM (Regular and Affiliate members only).
  • Mentors interested in participating will submit a completed Mentor application and CV online through the "Become a Mentor" link above.
  • Mentees interested in participating will submit a completed Mentee application and CV online through the "Become a Mentee" link above.
  • The AAOM Membership Committee will review all submitted materials and will match Mentors and Mentees based on common interests/goals.
  • Mentors and Mentees will be notified by staff regarding pairings.
  • Mentees are limited to one Mentor at a time.
  • Mentors may have up to two Mentees.

Tips for Success

  • Once paired, Mentees are expected to initiate the relationship.
  • Prior to the first interaction, Mentees should write down issues they would like to address during the mentoring sessions.
  • Mentees and Mentors work together to discuss and to accomplish goals.
  • Mentees and Mentors should agree upon the frequency, length, and nature of their meetings (phone, internet chat) and make sure to be prompt with appointments.
