2026 ABOM Exam Information
The American Board of Oral Medicine (ABOM) administers a certification process for dentists who are accomplished in the field. Individuals who pass all requirements of this Board become Diplomates of the American Board of Oral Medicine.
Qualifying Exam: Online Assessment (formerly known as Part A) Certification
DATES
Friday, January 9, 2026 – application opens November 1, 2025 - December 15, 2025
Friday, June 12, 2026 – application opens April 1, 2026 - May 15, 2026
Eligibility Requirements
- Graduation from a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)-accredited advanced education program in Oral Medicine, or enrollment in the second year of such a program.
- Membership in a recognized Oral Medicine organization.
- Submission of a completed application by the published deadline.
- Payment of application and registration fees by the published deadline.

2025 ABOM Oral Clinical Cases Exam (formerly known as Part B)
ONE DATE ONLY
At the AAOM Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas, USA on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Eligibility Requirements
- Graduation from a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)-accredited advanced education program in Oral Medicine, or enrollment in the second year of such a program.
- Successful completion of the Qualifying Examination.
- Evidence of at least 18 months of clinical practice in the oral medicine specialty following receipt of a certificate or degree. This evidence may include a letter from a qualified colleague, a direct supervisor, or the director of the applicant's training program.
- Membership in a recognized Oral Medicine organization.
- Submission of a completed application by the published deadline.
- Payment of application and registration fees by the published deadline.
