AAOM Member Highlight: Michelle Baxter

Michelle Baxter just received her Doctor of Nursing Practice as a nurse practitioner. She currently holds a position as an Assistant Professor at The University of Louisville School of Dentistry in the Division of Oral Medicine and the School of Nursing in Louisville, KY.

She also serves as a Primary Care Provider at UofL Care Partners, an integrated dental-medical clinic at ULSD. Ms. Baxter holds certification as an Adult/Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Michelle is an AAOM Affiliate Fellow and serves as the co-chair of the AAOM Academic Affiliate Fellowship Committee. Michelle is furthering her education by beginning a Ph.D. program in Nursing.

Ms. Baxter’s professional interests are in the areas of Oral Medicine and the relationship between oral health and systemic health with a focus on underserved populations and patient-centered care.

Her DNP project focused on the bidirectional relationship between diabetes and periodontal disease and impacted diabetic patients seeking dental treatment in a university-based dental clinic by expediting dental treatment through HbA1c testing at the initial dental screening appointment.
