News from Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at Case Western Reserve University Our department received exciting news in the past few months. Two of our faculty have been awarded Glennan Fellowships by CWRU. These awards are given annually to five tenure-track junior faculty across the University. Milda Chmielauskaite (oral medicine) and Ali Syed (oral radiology) are our two winners. Earlier this year, a Registered Nurse joined our department and the School of Dental Medicine. She will be instrumental in coordinating interprofessional activities and has already interfaced with the Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine service, assisting patients who require coordination among primary care, clinical psychology, pain management, dermatology, and ENT providers. Our MScD in Oral Medicine graduated three students this summer. Two joined the OM certificate program at UCSF, and one joined the certificate program at Penn. We also initiated innovative partnerships with the Physician Assistant Training Program at Case, and the Sleep Medicine service at University Hospitals Medical Center, with the creation of a Dental Sleep Medicine clinical service that will house oral medicine and sleep medicine fellows. We look forward to this exciting collaboration. We currently have three fellows in training and three MScD students who will complete their training in 2018. Finally, an initial application for an Oral Medicine program is in place for early fall submission. This will round up the available training in Oral Medicine at our institution to three distinct programs (fellowship, MScD, and residency) and will be located at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center and the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at the dental school. |
