Message from Dr. Eric T. Stoopler, AAOM President

Dear AAOM Colleagues,

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve as President for the next year (actually, 13 months!). To have the privilege to represent the AAOM, an organization comprised of professionals who do such important work, is truly what makes this honor so meaningful to me. I extend my sincere thanks to Immediate Past-President Miriam Robbins for her leadership this past year and to Executive Director Michele Reeder and the SBI staff for their dedicated work. Thank you to the members of the Executive Committee, Board of Trustees and AAOM Committees for their tireless efforts on behalf of the Academy.

For those who attended the meeting in San Antonio, I trust you all had a great time! Special thanks to Craig Hatch and Michaell Huber (National Meeting Committee Chairs), Nathaniel Treister and Arwa Farag (Scientific Sessions Subcommittee Chairs), Ken Ikeda and Bhavik Desai (Abstracts Subcommittee Chairs), Andres Pinto and Wendy Hupp (Corporate Sponsorship Committee Chairs), Jaisri Thoppay (Promotions Committee), Michele, Karen Thompson and the entire SBI staff for their tremendous efforts in coordinating such an exceptional meeting. I would also like to recognize our corporate sponsors - Xerostom with Saliactive, Elsevier, Camelix, and GSK – Glaxo Smith Kline.

I anticipate a productive year ahead for the Academy. The hard work of our committees, Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, is the foundation for organizational success. We will continue with initiatives in progress and consider new opportunities that are of strategic importance to the AAOM. I intend to capitalize on the tremendous expertise and talent of our members to continue the forward progress of the Academy.

I hope you will consider attending our Fall Meeting continuing education course that will be held in Boston on November 10th, 2018. Alessandro Villa and Nathaniel Treister have constructed a fantastic program entitled Oral Oncology Fundamentals: Oral Health and the Oncology Patient. More information regarding this event is available elsewhere in this newsletter.

I kindly request you consider ways to actively engage in the Academy this year. There are many opportunities to become involved in the AAOM – just reach out to explore the possibilities! I wish you all a safe, enjoyable and relaxing summer.

Dr. Eric T Stoopler
