UT HEALTH SAN ANTONIO SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY 

David Ojeda receives the UT Health Presidential Award 2023

Dr. David Ojeda, Associate Professor of Oral Medicine at UT Health San Antonio, member of the AAOM, and a diplomate of the ABOM, has been selected as a recipient of the UT Health San Antonio Presidential Award 2023 in the category of Excellence in Teaching - Emerging. This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Ojeda's outstanding teaching contributions and commitment to inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Dr. William Henrich, MD, MACP, the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio President, hosted an award dinner on April 5th to celebrate Dr. Ojeda and his fellow award recipients. During the ceremony, Dr. Peter Loomer, DDS, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Dentistry, stated David Ojeda's accomplishments. He said, "A rising leader of the School of Dentistry, Dr. David Ojeda directs 8 courses and is the faculty advisor for the student's chapter of the American Academy of Oral Medicine. In 2020, he assumed the Oral Medicine clinic directorship and changed the clinic operations to increase learning opportunities for students and residents, expand access and patient care and improve clinical revenue margins. Dr. Ojeda also served on 6 standing committees in the School of Dentistry, completed a term as a Faculty Senator in the University, and held national offices for the AAODCR and the ADEA. At the community level, he organizes the San Antonio Oral Cancer Walk to raise funds and awareness and advance research and patient support."

Dr. Ojeda's dedication to teaching and his commitment to excellence is a true inspiration to us all. We are grateful for his contributions to our profession and look forward to seeing all he will achieve in the future.

Dental School Faculty share expertise in March 2023

Four WVU School of Dentistry faculty members presented at the West Virginia Dental Hygienists’ Association’s on March 25, 2023 continuing learning session.

Elizabeth Puette, RDH and Dr. Juan Bugueno, DDS, MS presented a 2-hour course on Oral Cancer: “ORAL CANCER – OFTEN A SILENT CULPRIT.”

Suann Gaydos, RDH, and Ashlee Sowards, RDH were also able to discuss the importance of provider roles in helping eliminate smoking and vaping as part of a Certified Tobacco Treatment Training Program.
